What was before modern medicine for healing mankind?

Modern Medical science has grown up like anything in past 200 years and many of the new developments have served the humanity and changed the way to cure and heal from many communicable diseases.

Due recognition should be given to the development of vaccines in modern medical science to help in eradicating the communicable disease with high mortality rate like Plague, T.B., Cholera, etc

But, equally important is, the increasing prevalence of the diseases which were rare and non-existing earlier like Diabetes, Heart diseases etc.

How this happened? We shall connect later.

When we talk of the success stories of vaccination programmes in modern science we shouldn’t forget that this concept already existed in Ayurveda for the children as “Swarn Prashan Sanskar” to help build immunity with the growing age in our ancient culture.

Ayurveda has been healing mankind since centuries,

Ayurveda is the result of dynamic changes happened along the human evolution, Our ancient Rishis were spiritually elevated and could lay down the concepts and reveal the secrets of various Herbs without the help of any laboratory and machineries in healing the mankind and surprisingly the these concepts are also proving right on the parameters of the modern science.

This is why many times it is said that our ancients’ sages had the capacity to see beyond the human limits and they were able to see the future also, this is how Astrology came in existence.

The fact is that knowledge about the whole solar system was better understood by our ancient Sages which cannot be challenged even now.

Similarly, our ancient culture and sages knew the secrets of a long life, we have heard in many epics that Rishis used to stay in jungle for thousands of years in doing “Tapasya” to be blessed with divinity.

How this all was possible? It clearly shows that in those days people were knowing to stay more healthy and live long, but as the time passed many of the knowledge got vanished as books were not in trend and the knowledge used to be transferred to the next generation thru “Gurkuls” system where Guru used to pass on the information verbally.

Health is not a status to be achieved by externally as the modern medicine system believes in.

Whereas, our old Rishis always emphasised that Health is the result of equilibrium of Mind, Body and Soul and they practised the ways and means to derive it internally and through nature

Maharishi charak was the ancient Rishi who compiled all this valuable information in a book called “Charak Samhita”

Maharshi Charaka is the renowned author of the oldest surviving text in Ayurveda, the Charaka Samhita. It is believed that his master, Punarvasu Atreya, had seven disciples - Agnivesa, Charaka, Bhela, Jatukarna, Parasara, Harita, and Ksharapaani.

Ayurveda is oldest science for human life

Ayurveda, not only provides time tested drug formulation for different diseases but also it gives adequate stress on proper diet, lifestyle as per seasonal variations & thought process and thus bringing equilibrium in mind, body and soul.

Ayurveda believes that the whole universe is made up of five basic elements of universe (Panch Mahabhut) and similarly the human body too; this is why Ayurveda focuses to keep these elements in order to remain healthy, and it says that to keep these elements in order, there are 3 basic forces (Vital forces) that governs the functioning of body called Vata, Pitta and Kapha. So health is a state of equilibrium of these basic forces either we achieve this by lifestyle or taking the medication prescribed in ayurveda literatures.

In simple terms, Ayurveda calls to every human being to follow the Mother Nature and bring discipline in life to achieve good health in life.

We must be grateful to ancient sages who taught us to live better life thousands years back and revealed the secrets of various plants in the nature thru which we can cure many diseases.

Not only this, in the ancient times, the upbringing of the child used to start since pregnancy to give the birth of a child with special characteristics & merits of the human being, which was called as “Garbh Sanskaar”

One of the most famous and well-known tales is that of Abhimanyu from the Mahabharata. Another story of Prahlad is from the Puranas.

Mother and child care has been described in great detail in Ayurveda. All basic principles of Ayurveda need to be applied to deal with the problems of maternal and foetal mortality,

However, the importance was understood by Francis Galton in 1883 who coined the word “Eugenics”. The term eugenics which from its Greek roots means “good in birth”

So, it is clear that the literature and teachings of Ayurveda are ageless and tested on modern parameters also.

It is evident that since thousands of years, Ayurveda as “Science of Life” was being practiced to keep the mankind Healthy and fit to live long life.
